Last night they played X the movie on the scifi channel.
It was so horrible it was awesome.
Like...watching a train wreck. In slow motion.
And I watched the whole thing in it's horribly dubbed, badly censored, poorly edited glory. I think I may have died alittle inside.
I-I couldn't look away...The dub is absolutely the worst thing EVAR. (Well, Arashi's was pretty good, but that was the only one.) And scifi was soo stupid with the commercial-cuts. (right in the middle of a scene? I mean, come on.)
I don't think too highly of the movie to begin with, (i've seen it before) because it tries to cram a whole lot of story into 97 minutes. The pacing is really bad, and if you don't have at least rudimentary knowledge of the manga, you're totally lost within the first five minutes. It isn't successful as a movie if you have to do your research before watching the damn thing. A movie is something you should be able to go into blind (so to speak) and still be able to follow the story. With the X movie, you can't. That said, it could have been some really cool symbolic surrealistic movie, but it fell flat. Very flat. And no, I'm not just biased against it 'cause Seishirou and Subaru died within the first five minutes BUT THAT CERTAINLY DOESN'T HELP MATTERS ANY. Generally you, as the audience, are supposed to feel empathy toward the characters, but again, I only felt a twinge when they all died because I know them from the manga. (Which, incidently, is the only canon I accept. Meaning, X has no ending yet. and possibly never will if CLAMP doesn't get off their collective ass finish it.) One thing I can't stand is a movie having so much potential to be awesome and it just...doesn't happen. And I was willing to watch it again, despite all that, so what does that say about me? *sigh*
But at least the animation is pretty?
Well, the movie's still better than the TV series.
