D: I'm SETTLED into my new apartment. Feels weird. I both like and hate it here. The caretaker I'm finding is quite the power tripping dickwad. The property manager is uber nice. I'm... gonna have to see how this goes XD;;;.
So. I had a fun holiday weekend with my BFF Vang and his family. We ate good food (tried and failed to eat a HUGE dessert), went clubbing, danced and I got semi-tipsy. Next day I got sick from over dosing on oysters (and my antibiotics) and puked at work and came home early. It's been hot. GUH. Went to the mall and invested in a hair care kit WAY beyond my budget in an attempt to save my stress infested locks. (I gotta admit though expensive, AVEDA products are fucking amazing. *runs fingers through hair and grins*) I came home and finished a few commissions I'm actually PROUD to say I'm PROUD of. Feels good to finish stuff. On that note; I should work on FG. I should stop telling myself I should work on FG and actually WORK on it too...
*makes no effort to even attempt the above sentence*
And about art.
I'm convinced I've spent the last 10 years trying WAY too hard.
After a mental scan of all the art I've right+click saved, cherised, spent MONEY on, and in the back of my mind loved/hated, I realized most of isn't all that complex in terms of skill, color, composition and even theme. It's the STYLE and EXECUTION of the piece that has made most successful artists successful.
Now, the point of this is... Technical Skill. WTF does this mean? I remember when my highschool art teacher, GRRRR, took one of my projects to some big art teachers conference without asking me. I found out she did because she'd left about a dozen post it notes all over it about what was WRONG with my piece. I was a 9th grader. You can imagine how devastated I was. I thought I'd done something wrong. I remember one note she made that said; "Has little to no technical skills...". That one little note has haunted me for years. NO one explained this term to me. Not even in college because I stopped asking. Well, I THINK I finally get it and I can't help but feel more than a little insulted. You mean to TELL me when all of those artists on Conceptart.org say, "It's not the most technically perfect piece I've done..." they're talking about how NOT REALISTIC it is? Mind you, most of these artists can render humans/backgrounds/anything so insanely realistic it makes you want to GUT your own drawing hand. Art Seppuku. Yeah, they're AMAZING talking about TECHNICAL skills. Enter bitter laugh.
Was I supposed to be taught about technical skill/perfection in school? All I'm saying is, if technical skill means I need to spend 100+ hours a piece and make it so REAL you can smell it... uh, fuck art then. Am I STILL wrong about this?
Guh............. I often wonder if I'm meant to be a comic artist. I'm honestly amazed I got as far as I have in FG. I get way too discouraged with my storytelling method and art. Right NOW it's just the backgrounds. I'm to the point where I just want to fill the open spaces in with colorful gradients and say "Vielle is high." and skip a bunch of shit. *Sarah Ellerton; http://www.seraph-inn.com/ HOW do you do it? ... <33333* She found a style that works for her backgrounds and it's not painting every pebble nook and cranny.
{:O! What am I doing wrong? It shouldn't take me 8 hours to finish a comic page. SHOULDN'T! This isn't about being lazy either. I'm totally into quality over quantity but... when the quality means 2 pages every 3 months... Yeah, somethings gotta give. I'm trying to break myself of this technical exellence curse. My characters look like cardboard cutouts and ... I'm okay with THAT. Why can't I do that with my bgs? I'll tough it out until I finish the most recent chapter.
And onto random:
I'm addicted to caffiene. Or the IDEA of it. I don't get it much so when I do... GUH. I'm a twitchy geeked out mess. *twitches* I live on vitamin water and life water. I've been craving the fizzy high fructose corn syrup-ness of pop but guh... pop is too expensive for so little. VW and LW is like... $1 at target. I buy tons of it. I'm in love with lattes now though. Such a horrible $3.70 addiction! OH and Starbucks seems determined to make SURE I stay addicted. I always order a tall (which is a small) and they end up giving me a grande... o_o. I mean... I'm all for extra drinkage when I only paid for a little but this's happened on 3 seperate occassions. Do SB works not KNOW which size I mean when I say tall? Oh well XD;;. I won't complain. |

One of the oddest pickup lines ever? :D
"Are you lactose intolerant?"
Which was cute, but strange. Said by a somewhat nerdy-but-cute Asian guy at Cub Foods to me at midnight, in line at checkout. Jess and I, being the night owls we are, went grocery shopping at dead of night. I bought a bunch of things including string cheese (half dozen singles since the pack was out) and shredded cheese. The guy behind us in line starts talking and... is he trying to chat me up?
Guy: I see you like cheese?
Me: Yeah... I guess so.
Guy: I just figure not many of us (re: Asians) can handle milk.
Me: They make stuff for that.
Guy: Yeah! I have some right now. *shows me the thing of Lactaid he's purchasing*
So, me being the shy and perhaps timid person I am in real life, unintentionally acted real cold to Mr. Lactaid due the "wtf someone's talking to me" factor. (The story of me...) But ha! That was nicely flattering. Faith in my compatibility(?) status has been somewhat restored!
Roomie has to make fun of me tho. :P
